Home Insurance covers the insurance of residential buildings situated in the United Kingdom. Its a bit of a catch all title as the homeowner needs a variety of insurance covers to protect his or her belongings. A standard home insurance policy will cover a variety of different sections, depending on your circumstance, you may want buildings cover only you may want to include contents as well. Some people find that buying the different sections from alternative product providers can actually save money.

Buildings Insurance covers the fabric of the home and in essence covers anything that you would leave behind if you left the property. This would include; the walls, foundations, gates, fences walls  and include anything that is permanently affixed to the building such as a fully fitted kitchen or bathroom. The foundations and underground pipes and cables also are considered to be part of the building

Contents covers your personal belongings in the home and this cover is usually ranged on a  a new for old basis. Anything that you would take with you if you moved from the property for good is classed as Contents. Most modern polices are written covering a standard set of perils, which can be extended to include Accidental Damage. To obtain new for old cover under a home insurance policy, you have to insure for the full replacement value of your goods.

All Risks is an extension to a contents policy and generally , it is not available on its own. This provides cover for items that you take away from the home and are worried about damaging or loosing. Because of its relative high cost in relation to standard contents insurance, options include insuring on a first loss basis, with the items being unspecified. For more valuable items of jewellery etc, a specified option is available, this is usually for items in excess of £1500.

To a home insurance policy, you can can include additional covers these include; Pedal Cycle, homeowner legal expenses, small craft and sometimes even caravans.
