Most people aspire to owing a second or holiday home, if not now then

like to do on retirement and a large number will say live abroad.
Although there are a good deal of holiday homes in the United Kingdom,
most people now tend to look abroad for a second property as the choice
of property is often wider and cheaper.
Certainly one of the factors that has driven the surge in holiday home
ownership has been the strength of house prices in the United Kingdom.
People with a good deal of equity in their homes have been extending
their mortgages and buying property abroad. Second home ownership on the
United Kingdom has also increased with people whose work takes then away
from home finding it may be more economically viable to buy a second
home than to rent property.
When asked what they are looking for in a holiday home abroad, most
people say warm weather and a better lifestyle, certainly the cost of
living can be lower abroad and the weather is also an important factor.
Whilst Spain has traditionally attracted persons wishing to obtain a
holiday home abroad, many of its European neighbours are now catching
up. Whilst Spain is still the preferred destination for second home
owners, its property prices are sometimes considerably higher than many
of the less developed property markets in other countries. One of the
other changes that has made holiday home ownership more attractive, is
the advent of the budget airlines. Often flying to small regional
airports, the budget airlines have opened up large tracts of continental
Europe for visitors. If you intend to market your holiday home for
rental purposes, the ability to source cheap airfares cannot be over
emphasised
